IIRSI annual conference
Inauguration of IIRSI-2018 by the Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri. M. Venkiah Naidu.
The IIRSI 2018 conference was attended by more than 2,000 ophthalmologists in Chennai on 7th and 8th July 2018.
The conference was inaugurated by the Honourable Vice President of India, Shri. M. Venkiah Naidu who stated: “It gives me immense pleasure to be a part of the IIRSI convention and see thousands of doctors gathered here from across the globe to update themselves with latest advancements in eye care. Yet it is significant to note that one-third of 45 million blind people in the world are from India. As the studies warn that the number of blind people is set to triple, it is time for Ophthalmologists to look in to the concept of artificial intelligence, which is not new but growing exponentially over past many years.”
Dr. C. Vijaya Baskar, Honourable Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Tamil Nadu was the Guest of Honour. Interesting sessions included the magical world of retina, the big standoff – dilemmas in cataract and refractive surgery busted, the Court Martial, Ophthalmic Premier League, Live surgery session and the wet lab sessions.
Eye Tech Ophthalmology included talks on Corneal Allogenic Intrastromal Ring Segments by Soosan Jacob, hypersonic vitrectomy by Anusha Venkataraman and the Elisar mobile autoperimeter by Dhivya Ashok.
Some other notable talks were on episcleral drug delivery systems by Dr. Kimberley Cockerham, neurostimulation for dry eye disease by Dr. Preeya Gupta and the use of nanotechnology for correction of refractive errors by Dr. Smadja from Israel.
The film festival had six categories with a Grand Prize that was won by Dr. Samaresh Srivastava.
